A practical guide

Fit first. Then the finishing touches.

A little information before you inquire makes it easier to discuss a suitable garment.

Begin with a garment that fits

Lay a comfortable, well-fitting garment flat and measure it without stretching the fabric. Note chest, waist, hip, shoulder width, sleeve length and overall length where relevant. Say whether each figure is a flat garment measurement or a body measurement. Use the same units throughout and mention the layers you expect to wear underneath.

Compare those figures with the confirmed costume measurements rather than relying on a size label alone. Think about sitting, raising your arms and any movement required on stage. Describe fit concerns in your inquiry. Ask whether an adjustment is possible before arranging hire; do not assume alterations are included or permitted.

Check the complete outfit

Request a written list of included pieces. A collar, belt, cap or other accessory shown in an illustrative image may not accompany an actual garment. Ask about closures, detachable decorations and any handling needs. Keep small pieces together when dressing and packing, and avoid lifting a costume by a collar, trim or delicate fastening.

Care follows the garment

Confirm cleaning instructions for the specific item and every detachable component. Different fabrics, linings, dyes and decorations can need different treatment. Do not choose a cleaning method from appearance alone. Ask before applying heat, steam, stain treatment or a cleaning product. Handle pleats and decorative edges gently, and report a problem before attempting a repair.

Agree the arrangements

For a rental inquiry, provide your intended use, required dates and any rehearsal period. Confirm packing, delivery or collection, the return date and the return method before agreeing an order. Ask how condition is recorded and how cleaning or damage will be handled. The policy fields below remain unconfirmed and must be completed by the business; they are not current service promises.
